The Room First

Most restaurant sites are a PDF menu, a phone number and one photograph of a plate under a flash. The room you built, the light at seven, the reason people cross a city to sit down for three hours, none of it survives the homepage. This page describes what a Framer template for a restaurant should carry instead, and where Saint Ego Editions honestly stands today.

An editorial Framer template for restaurants, chef led rooms and wine bars. Menu as a CMS collection, honest reservations, private hire. Launch pricing.

On saleLes Gourmands is the restaurant Edition. Six pages, complete React source, fourteen original photographs. Single licence 89 USD, Studio licence 179 USD.

What the site is actually for

Four things get looked up before anyone books, and all four are boring. Are you open tonight, where exactly are you, what does dinner cost, and does the room look like somewhere worth sitting in for three hours.
A PDF menu answers none of them well. It opens in a viewer, it pinches on a phone, it was dated last spring, and search engines read almost nothing inside it.
The overloaded builder theme fails from the other direction. Parallax, a sliding gallery of forty plates, a counter of years in business, and a reservation button that scrolls instead of booking.
The site is not a brochure. It has to survive being opened on a phone at ten to seven by someone standing on your street with one bar of signal.
Everything beyond those four answers exists to make one argument, which is that this room is worth the journey. That argument is made with restraint, never with volume.

The room and the light

Photograph the room before you photograph the plate. The room is the one thing that cannot be delivered, copied or approximated at home.
Shoot the empty room in the afternoon, when the light is long and the chairs are straight. That frame sells a table better than any close view of a dish.
Food photography dates quickly and reads badly on a small screen. Two or three plates, shot in your own light on your own tables, are enough for a whole site.
Include what people actually remember. The doorway, the bar, the back of a banquette, the glassware, a hand pouring, the street at dusk.
No stock photography. A borrowed plate of pasta on a marble slab tells a reader, immediately, that the real room was not worth showing.
The layout is built for large quiet images with slow reveals, so a small number of very good frames carries everything. It is designed for six excellent photographs, not sixty average ones.
