What the site is actually for

The menu as a collection

• The menu lives as a CMS collection, not as a document. One entry per dish, with fields for name, short description, price, section, allergens and availability.
• Changing the price of the plaice takes seconds from a phone in the pass. That is the only test that matters, because a menu which is hard to change is a menu that goes stale by March.
• Sections are a field, not a page. Snacks, raw, first, main, side, cheese, dessert. Reordering the carte is a matter of dragging entries, never of rebuilding a layout.
• A dish that comes off is marked unavailable rather than deleted. The archive is worth keeping, and a dish that returns in October should not have to be retyped.
• The wine list is a second collection with its own fields: producer, appellation, vintage, grape, by the glass and by the bottle. It behaves differently from food and should not be forced into the same shape.
• Because the menu is text and not an image, dish names are read, quoted and indexed. Someone searching for a specific preparation in your neighbourhood can find you by the thing you actually cook.

Hours, booking and the private room

• Opening hours sit in structured data, not only in a paragraph. The hours shown in a search result and the hours on the page come from the same field, so they cannot contradict each other.
• Closures are a field too. August, the week between Christmas and the new year, the Monday you shut for a private lunch. A closure that lives only in a story on Instagram will be missed.
• Reservations are handled honestly. The template links to whatever booking system you already run, and the button says what it does. Book a table opens your real availability, it does not open a contact form.
• If you take bookings by telephone, the page says so plainly and the number is one tap. There is no shame in a telephone, and a decorative widget is worse than none.
• The walk in policy is written down. Whether the bar is kept for walk ins, whether tables are held, how late the kitchen runs. This alone removes a large share of the messages you answer by hand.
• Private hire has its own page and its own enquiry form, with covers, date, seated or standing, and budget. Events are the highest value enquiry a restaurant receives and they should never arrive through the general contact form.

The room and the light

Availability and price

• Les Gourmands is the restaurant Edition. Six pages drawn for a dining room: an interactive menu with three states, a fixed reservation rail on desktop, a four scene editorial carousel and fourteen original photographs.
• It is finished and on sale. The whole six page site is live and you can click through all of it before you buy, at les-gourmands.vercel.app.
• It is delivered as complete React source, every page and every component, nothing minified or locked. Node.js 22.13 or newer, two commands to install and run, and it deploys on Vercel, Netlify or your own server.
• Prices in USD, with no struck through price and no discount. Single licence, one published website including one you build for a client, 89. Studio licence, up to five published websites, 179.
• A commissioned Saint Ego website, designed from zero for one restaurant, starts around 3,500 EUR. That is the route when the room needs its own typography, its own grid and its own photography direction.
